چکیده

The thermoelastic effect was used to produce high-frequency, broadband ultrasound in water. A pulsed diode laser, followed by an erbium-doped fiber amplifier, was focused onto a light-absorbing film deposited on a glass substrate. Conversion efficiency was improved by over 20 dB using an elastomeric film instead of a more commonly used metallic one. Radiation pattern measurements show that considerable energy is radiated at 1/245° for frequencies beyond 50 MHz. These results show that the thermoelastic effect can be used to produce phased arrays for high-frequency ultrasound imaging. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1388027#

Circularly Polarized Circular Slot Antenna Array Using Sequentially Rotated Feed Network

This paper presents the design, simulation, and measurement of two low-cost broadband circularly polarized (CP) printed antennas: a single element and an array at C band. The proposed single element antenna is excited by an L-shaped strip with a tapered end, located along the circular-slot diagonal line in the back plane. From the array experimental results, the 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth can r...

Generating and Focusing the Ultrasound Waves Using Elastomer-based Capacitive Micro-Speakers

Ultrasound wave is a kind of waves with the frequency higher than the human audible frequency. Although ultrasound was first used for military identification purposes, it has been used for decades for various other applications, especially medical applications. Medical applications of ultrasound include diagnostic and therapeutic applications, such as for the treatment of cancer. In this paper,...

Carbon nanotube composite optoacoustic transmitters for strong and high frequency ultrasound generation.

We demonstrate carbon nanotube (CNT) composite-based optoacoustic transmitters that generate strong and high frequency ultrasound. The composite consists of CNTs grown on a substrate, which are embedded in elastomeric polymer used as an acoustic transfer medium. Under pulsed laser excitation, the composite generates very strong optoacoustic pressure: 18 times stronger than a Cr film reference a...

An Ultra-High Element Density pMUT Array with Low Crosstalk for 3-D Medical Imaging

A ~1 MHz piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducer (pMUT) array with ultra-high element density and low crosstalk is proposed for the first time. This novel pMUT array is based on a nano-layer spin-coating lead zirconium titanium film technique and can be fabricated with high element density using a relatively simple process. Accordingly, key fabrication processes such as thick piezoele...

Fabry Perot polymer film fibre-optic hydrophones and arrays for ultrasound field characterisation

An optical ultrasound sensing method based upon the detection of acousticallyinduced changes in the optical thickness of a Fabry Perot (FP) polymer film sensing interferometer has been developed as an alternative to piezoelectric based detection methods for ultrasound measurement applications. The technique provides an inherently broadband (~30MHz) response and excellent detection sensitivities...
